Cantwell Statement on Boeing Submitting Tanker Bid

WALLA WALLA, WA – Today Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) issued the following statement on Boeing submitting its bid this morning for the U.S. Air Force refueling tanker competition:

“Now that the bids are in, the Pentagon should move forward quickly in choosing a contractor to build the next-generation Air Force tanker, but should do so while ensuring we have a level playing field for competition. During this months-long process, I will continue to advocate for a fair competition that does not allow illegal European government subsidies to tip the scales in favor of EADS. This vitally important national defense contract should be won on a level playing field, and I am supporting legislation that would ensure the Pentagon take into account the World Trade Organization ruling that illegal subsidies helped EADS develop its tanker aircraft.”
