The Southwest Washington Regional Airport in Kelso is getting some good news out of the recently-passed Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill, a measure that helps make more money available for improvements at the airport. Senator Maria Cantwell is praising the passage of the FAA Bill, talking about how it’s a “win for Southwest Washington aerospace jobs.” Cantwell notes that the airport in Kelso got an Airport Improvement grant of nearly $490,000 in 2011, money that will help to improve the runway and taxiway at the airport. She says passage of this bill will help to provide solid support for additional grants, money that will help pay for additional improvements. The bill also includes money for development and implementation of the NextGen GPS-based air traffic control system. Cantwell says that this bill will help to support as many as 12,000 jobs in Washington state, as these airport improvements move forward.
