Feds grant $13.5M to WA tribes to fight crime

U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell has announced that $13.5 million in federal money has been granted to 15 Washington state Native American tribes to fight crimes on the reservation.

The money comes from the Department of Justice and a bill recently signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Cantwell, D-Washington, says the money and bill aims to increase collaboration among federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies to curb crime on tribal land.

The $13.5 million award is part of 300 grants totaling $127 million being provided to 31 Native American tribes across the country.
