RICHLAND, Wash. — Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash) were in town for the ribbon-cutting of a center helping Hanford Employees injured on the job.

The politicians both spoke on the important role Hanford and its employees play in the area.

The Hanford Work Engagement Center is a one-stop-shop for past and present Hanford Employees needing help navigating the programs and resources available to those with injuries or illnesses stemming from their jobs.

Sen. Cantwell said she's proud to be a part of making sure safety and security is a number one priority at the site while acknowledging the need to do better at taking care of a large part of the Tri-Cities workforce.

“I think now, as we reach the most challenging phases of Hanford cleanup, we want to make sure that the workforce knows that any process, any questions, they’re going to get answers,” she said.

Rep. Newhouse said the center ensures Hanford continues bringing world-class talent to the Tri-Cities.

“You need to be able to offer all kinds of services like this," Newhouse said. "It’s a very important aspect to make this an even more attractive place to work. I think this helps complete the package.”
