Cantwell Statement on Labor Day

SEATTLE, WA – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement commemorating Labor Day:

“This Labor Day as on every Labor Day, we reflect on the working men and women that have built up America to be the bastion of freedom, prosperity and opportunity it is today. Labor serves as the backbone of our economy and the guardian of the American Dream.

“Washington state continues to be a national leader in fostering innovation and attracting entrepreneurs to launch their next best idea in our state. We have the best workers in the world who will prevail even with the deck stacked against them. We proved that yet again this year when our aerospace workers won the tanker competition and its 11,000 jobs. The working men and women of this country are the reason why America’s productivity is the envy of the world.

“But this Labor Day, too many Americans are looking for work instead of reaping the fruits of their labor. This recession began on Wall Street, but only Main Street can end it. In the U.S. Senate, I’m working every day to spur job growth and support working families. This fall, I’ll continue to fight to ensure that putting Americans back to work is at the top of our agenda.”
