Boeing 767 Tanker Agreement Reached
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) today issued the following statement on the deal brokered to replace the aging military tanker fleet with Boeing 767 planes:
"The military's tanker planes are older than their pilots. That's why we worked for this package which will modernize the fleet with Boeing 767s built right here in Washington state.
"This deal will keep jobs in Washington state. According to Boeing estimates, it will directly employ 2,400 people leading to an additional 5,500 indirect jobs. $275 million annually will flow to Washington state.
"My colleagues, particularly Senators Murray, Inouye, Stevens and Conrad, and Congressman Dicks, worked hard to make this deal happen."
