Cantwell Announces $500,000 for Inland Northwest Natural Resource Research Center
WASHINGTON, D.C.- Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today announced $500,000 in federal funding for the Gonzaga University's Inland Northwest Natural Resource Research Center (INNRRC). The funds will be used to update laboratories, classroom space, faculty offices, and provide new equipment.
"For many years Gonzaga University has been on the front lines in scientific studies," said Cantwell. "I am pleased that we were able to secure these funds so that the scientists of tomorrow can learn more effectively by having modern, hi-tech equipment."
The funds will allow students and faculty to carry out in-depth research projects and create more room for classes held by the chemistry and biology departments.
The INNRRC will train tomorrow's science and environmental experts by focusing on research essential to eastern Washington. The center will emphasize more hands-on training and lab-based science instruction.
The grant is administered by the Department of Education as part of the Directed Grants Program.
