Cantwell announces funding for Puget Island Water System

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today announced that she secured $225,000 for the Puget Island Water System in Wahkiakum County in the omnibus spending bill that passed the Senate and was signed by President yesterday. Cantwell requested the funding for fiscal year 2003. The funds will be used by Wahkiakum Public Utility District to remove 17,000 feet of asbestos-lined transmission and distribution lines in the Puget Island Water System.

“These funds will help keep Puget Island’s drinking water safe, reliable, and clean,” Cantwell said. “Water is not a luxury, Wahkiakum County PUD will now have help removing asbestos that has threatened Puget Island’s water supply.”
