Cantwell Announces Over $11 Million to Beef Up Security for City of Seattle
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded more than $11 million to the City of Seattle to prevent, respond and recover from threats or acts of terrorism.
"Protecting our nation's cities and urban areas from terrorist threats is crucial," said Cantwell. "Each dollar the city of Seattle receives means extra resources to train personnel and purchase much needed equipment and supplies to help the city prevent and respond to terrorism."
The funds, provided by the Office for Domestic Preparedness, will be used for the purchase of emergency responder equipment; costs related to planning; conducting and evaluating chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) exercises; and for the overall administrative costs associated with the implementation of the overall Urban Areas Homeland Security Initiative.
This grant is administered as part of the FY 2003 Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI), a division of the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness.
