Cantwell Applauds Confirmation of Gabriel Sanchez for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) applauded the confirmation of Gabriel Sanchez for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Sanchez was confirmed by the Senate with a vote of 52-47.

“I applaud the confirmation of Gabriel Sanchez to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Sanchez brings with him nearly two decades of legal experience from working on criminal justice reform to labor protections for farmworkers. He is highly qualified and his dedication to the rule of law will be an asset to the court and all those who come before him,” said Senator Cantwell.

Gabriel Sanchez was first nominated by President Biden on September 20, 2021. Sanchez has served as an Associate Justice on the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District since 2018. Prior to being appointed to the bench, Justice Sanchez worked for seven years in California state government as the Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to Governor Jerry Brown and as a Deputy Attorney General in the Correctional Law Section of the California Attorney General’s Office. Before his tenure in state government, Sanchez was an associate at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP from 2006-2011. Sanchez served as a law clerk for Judge Richard A. Paez on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2005-2006.
