Cantwell Applauds Near Unanimous Senate Approval of VOW to Hire Heroes Act
Cantwell: ‘This bill is about expanding opportunities for America’s heroes to succeed in the civilian workforce’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement following Senate passage of the VOW to Hire Heroes Act. Senator Cantwell is a cosponsor of the legislation, which passed by a 94-1 vote today.
“This bill is about expanding opportunities for America’s heroes to succeed in the civilian workforce,” said Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA). “This legislation is a major step forward for the thousands of unemployed Washington state veterans. We need to ensure that those who serve our country get the benefits they’ve earned and deserve.”
The VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011 would incentivize employers to hire unemployed veterans and service-disabled veterans and provides all outgoing veterans with the job training skills they need to find a job.The legislation expands and improves upon several existing benefits aimed at helping service members find jobs, such as the Transition Assistance Program, the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program and the Montgomery GI bill.For additional details, click here.
