Cantwell, Commerce Committee Colleagues Welcome Sen. Ben Ray Luján Back to Work
“We love you, Ben Ray,” says Cantwell to Senator Luján (D-NM), who returned to the Senate for the first time after suffering a stroke in late January
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, at a Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee hearing, Chair Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) welcomed Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) back to work. Senator Luján has been absent from Senate business since January 27th after suffering a stroke in his home state of New Mexico. Senator Luján returns to the Senate after a brief hospitalization and full recovery from brain surgery.
VIDEO: A standing ovation broke out minutes after the hearing began as Sen. Luján made his way to his seat.
“Senator Luján, so good to see you,” Cantwell said when the applause died down.
“It’s an absolute honor to be back,” Senator Luján responded. “To everyone that sent me notes, who sent me videos, all the prayers — it worked and it’s good to be back. I’ll tell you, I missed you all. So I look forward to getting to work, Madam Chair. ”
“We love you Ben Ray, and we’re glad you’re here with us today,” said Senator Cantwell.
