Cantwell hires veteran White House staffer to advise on environmental issues

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today announced that Dan Sakura has joined her team as legislative counsel on environmental and natural resource issues.

"Dan has hands-on experience with issues important to Washington state, including the protection and management of federal lands, Pacific salmon and other natural resources," Cantwell said. "He is a valuable addition to my staff, and an asset to the people of our state."

Dan has deep roots in Washington state, his great grandfather settled in the state in the1880s and he continues to have extensive family ties to the state.

From 1999-2001, Dan served on the staff of the White House Counsel on Environmental Quality.

From 1993-1998, he served in the office of the Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks in the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Dan is a graduate of the University of Chicago and the Georgetown University Law Center.
