Cantwell: Landing 7E7 Dreamliner A Dream Come True

SEATTLE, W.A. – "Tomorrow the world will celebrate a century of flight, made possible by American ingenuity and innovation. Today's announcement continues this proud tradition, and ensures that Washington workers will remain the true pioneers of aerospace.

"From the days of William Boeing's little red barn to the new 7E7 plant, Washington workers have helped the first century of aviation take flight. Today's announcement is a resounding validation that our state's aerospace workforce is second to none.

"The first Boeing plane was built in Washington, and it's only fitting that the next generation of planes will be made here, too.

"Thoreau said, ‘Dreams are the touchstones of our characters.' Today, the Dreamliner is a touchstone of Washington state's character. Building the Dreamliner is a dream come true

"The reason Washington builds the best planes is that we have the best workers. Hard working, skilled workers are what will keep and draw businesses here. And it's hard working, skilled workers who will get our economy moving, too!

"The fact that Boeing chose to build the 7E7, which will be built with advanced composite materials, sends a strong message to other employers: exciting new composites training programs in our region mean that Washington workers are best-prepared to work with the manufacturing medium of the future.

"The fact that that the 7E7 will be built with composites is a fitting metaphor for the team efforts that helped Washington state land the production facility. The campaign to win this project was a composite of efforts: frontline workers, colleges and universities, the Governor, local governments, and those of us in the Congressional delegation all worked together to make the case that Washington has the right workforce and the right business climate to build this plane."
