Cantwell: McCurdy great choice for the Coeur d'Alene Basin Commission
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today congratulated Jim McCurdy on his appointment to Coeur d'Alene Basin Commission by Governor Locke.
Senator Maria Cantwell:
"I congratulate Jim McCurdy on his appointment to the Coeur d'Alene Basin Commission. Washington state's seat on the Commission is critical to addressing concerns about our quality of life and economic future," Cantwell said. "With Jim's experience as an environmental, natural resources, and tribal law expert, Washington state's interests will be well represented on the Commission."
"I also believe it is imperative a local voice from Spokane County is represented on the commission. I urge the Idaho Legislature to reinstate the Spokane County seat on the Commission, as was originally legislated."
Jim McCurdy:
"I know this issue if very important to Sen. Cantwell and I appreciate her dedication to having local leaders and citizen groups as a major voice in this process," McCurdy said. "I look forward to working with Sen. Cantwell and helping facilitate this open community dialogue which seeks a consensus based approach to implementing EPA's ROD."
The commission, created by the Idaho State Legislature, will oversee the Superfund cleanup of the Coeur d'Alene Basin. Washington has one seat on the seven-member commission.
