Cantwell Praises President Obama's Executive Order Boosting Education for Hispanic Students

VANCOUVER, WA – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement on President Barack Obama’s Tuesday signing of an executive order that builds on a 1990 presidential initiative to improve educational opportunities for Hispanic students.
 
“I commend President Obama for embarking on the first presidential initiative in more than 20 years to strengthen and enhance educational opportunities for Hispanic students. Hispanics, the largest minority in American schools, have a high school drop-out rate more than twice the national average. This initiative will open up doors at every educational level, from pre-school to college. Education is a key to a quality life, to full participation in our democracy, and to a prosperous economic future for our nation. By placing a focus on the educational concerns facing our growing Hispanic community in Washington state and nationally, we are taking a significant step toward a stronger nation and ensuring all students have equal educational opportunities.”
