Cantwell Statement Honoring Martin Luther King Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement in honor of Martin Luther King Day, which will be celebrated on Monday.

“Today we remember and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s passionate leadership in pursuit of civil rights. Dr. King’s fight for equality for all Americans transformed our society and left an awe-inspiring legacy that drives us to this day.

“In 1961 Dr. King visited Seattle and spoke at Garfield High School about the need to make the American Dream a reality for every American. Nearly 52 years later, as we reflect on Dr. King’s legacy, we must also ask ourselves what we can do to continue his dream of equality and prosperity for all Americans. We owe it to future generations to keep building a nation that lives up to Dr. King’s vision.”
