Cantwell Statement on 70th Anniversary of Hanford B Reactor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) issued the following statement on the 70th anniversary of the activation of Hanford’s B Reactor.

“Today, we pay tribute to the workers and scientists who achieved great scientific breakthroughs at Hanford’s B Reactor. The B Reactor stands as a monument to the pivotal role that the Manhattan Project played in our nation’s history.

“We are continuing our efforts to preserve this scientific story for future generations. That’s why my colleagues and I have introduced The Manhattan Project National Historical Park Act, which would preserve three historic sites -- including Hanford’s B Reactor in Washington, and sites at Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. We will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to pass this important legislation that would preserve history and support the Tri-Cities’ economy.”
