Cantwell Statement on Ballot Drop Box Arson Incidents

VANCOUVER, WA –Today, at a press conference about affordable housing in Vancouver, WA, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) delivered the following remarks about the ballot drop box arson incidents reported this morning in Vancouver and Portland, OR:

“I have been in contact with Washington State Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. My office has been in contact with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the cyber security agency [the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)] focused on infrastructure within the Department of Homeland Security.”

“Washington [is] one of the highest voting percentage states in the country. Washingtonians will not be intimidated when it comes to voting. I want state and local officials to know that we will make sure any federal resources necessary to help carry out the elections will be available to them and continue to update people, as we get more information.”
