Cantwell Statement on Georgia Murders, Violence Against AAPI Communities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement in response to the murders of eight people in Atlanta, Georgia, and the disturbing rise in violence against members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities:
"I stand with AAPI communities in Georgia and everywhere around the country. There must be accountability for these heinous acts of violence. I urge federal law enforcement authorities to fully investigate and prosecute all hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.”
Earlier this week, Senator Cantwell joined a number of her colleagues in introducing the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to address the rise in hate and violence directed at AAPI communities as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
