Cantwell Statement on Rosanna Peterson Confirmation

WASHINGTON, DC –Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) issued the following statement today on the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Rosanna Peterson to be U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Washington. The Eastern District’s main federal courthouse is in Spokane, with satellite offices in Yakima and Richland:

“I extend my congratulations today to Rosanna Peterson. It is difficult to get an unanimous vote on anything these days, but last night, the Senate voted 89-0 to confirm Ms. Peterson as U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Washington state.  This vote marks a historic milestone as Ms. Peterson becomes the first woman elevated to a federal judgeship in Washington’s Eastern District. I have no doubt that Ms. Peterson will be an outstanding representative for our federal judiciary.  Ms. Peterson, nominated by President Obama on October 13, 2009, has long been recognized by her peers for her keen intellect, boundless passion for law and dedication to equal justice. I offered my strongest recommendation when I first introduced Ms. Peterson to the Judiciary Committee, and proudly cast my vote to confirm her last night.”
