Cantwell Statement on Southwest Airlines Temporary Grounding

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, issued the following statement in response to the temporary grounding of all Southwest Airlines flights across the United States this morning:

"This is another demonstration that Southwest Airlines needs to upgrade their systems and stop the negative impacts to individual travelers,” Sen. Cantwell said.

Cantwell led a Feb. 9 committee hearing where she questioned Southwest Airlines Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson on a concrete timeline for technology upgrades to help prevent future cancellations at Southwest.
