Cantwell Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt
Cantwell: Ruling “is a decisive victory for women’s health and constitutional rights”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled unconstitutional parts of a Texas law restricting women’s access to safe, legal abortion care.
“Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt is a decisive victory for women’s health and constitutional rights. The decision affirms that a deceptive Texas law with the express purpose of gutting access to safe, legal abortions is not only harmful to women and families, but is clearly unconstitutional. Much work remains to ensure all women can access compassionate and personalized reproductive health care where they live.”
Earlier this year, Cantwell joined 163 Members of Congress in filing an amicus brief to the Supreme Court on Whole Woman’s Health vs. Hellerstedt.
