Cantwell Statement on the Eighth Anniversary of the Attacks of September 11

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell issued the following statement on the eighth anniversary of 9/11:

“Today, we honor the memories of those who lost their lives in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001. As a nation, we remember the innocent victims of those attacks and we recall the courage of the men and women who risked their lives and, in too many cases, gave their lives so that others might live. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones.

“The challenge remains to prevent this tragedy from recurring.  Today, we renew our commitment to protecting America and to refocusing our efforts to fight terror.

“To honor the victims of 9/11, Congress designated today a National Day of Service and Remembrance.  Volunteering pays tribute to those lives lost, while improving your own community.

“I urge all Americans to join with me in remembering those who died through community service and working together to improve our future.”
