Congratulations to Cyrus Habib on his Rhodes Scholarship

Congratulations to Cyrus Habib, a resident of Kirkland, who was recently awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Cyrus interned in my Senate office, and exemplified a sincere commitment to public service. While his energy and enthusiasm were contagious throughout the office, he was most known for his diligence, and his dedication. He frequently demonstrated leadership in initiating new projects, but never failed to chip-in wherever extra help was needed. I was proud to recommend Cyrus for the prestigious scholarship.

Cyrus, who is blind, is accumulating an impressive array of accomplishments: in addition to earning an excellent academic record, he is a gifted martial artist, a talented downhill skier, and a published photographer. I am thrilled Cyrus will continue his work on the Middle East at Oxford; both his spirit and his studies give me great hope for a peaceful future in that very troubled region.

The people of Washington state should be proud of both of its recipients, Cyrus Habib and Anthony House, of Spokane, who recently graduated from Georgetown University with top honors in History and has been working with the homeless in Portland. We look forward to hearing of their continuing successes.
