Senator Cantwell's Response to the Forest Service's Administrative Investigation of the Thirtymile Fire

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Forest Service today released its administrative investigation of the Thirtymile fire.

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) made the following statement:

"It's been ten months since the Thirtymile Fire tragedy. Today's recognition by the Forest Service that mistakes were made and that there must be accountability is long overdue.

"But disciplinary action is not enough: the Forest Service's culture must change to make sure another Thirtymile Fire never happens again.

"I will continue to fight with Doc Hastings to inject independence into investigations of future forest firefighter fatalities and will continue to press for accountability within the Forest Service."
