Senator Cantwell's statement on the death of Rachel Corrie

I am saddened by Rachel Corrie’s tragic death. She lost her life actively advocating for a cause that she believed in and will be remembered by her friends and family for her courage and dedication.

Hundreds of innocent civilians have lost their lives since the Middle Eastern peace process broke down, and every death is a terrible reminder that the current situation is unacceptable for all involved parties.

I will continue to encourage the United States’ active involvement in that diplomatic process, specifically by advancing a clear road map and sustained engagement in the region.

I will also remain in contact with the State Department and monitor the investigation into Ms. Corrie’s death.
