Senator Maria Cantwell Applauds $35 million HOPE VI Grant For the Park Lake Homes
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today applauded the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) decision to award the Park Lake Homes a $35 million HOPE VI grant. The HOPE VI grant will be used for the redevelopment of Park Lake Homes, a 900-unit mixed-income community and one of King County's oldest and largest public housing complexes.
"The HOPE VI grant is critical to revitalizing this severely distressed public housing development and helping transform it into a safe, livable environment," Cantwell said. "The childcare, education, and transportation services built into the Park Lake Homes will provide the fundamental building blocks for helping members of the community in moving toward self-sufficiency."
The Park Lake Homes plan includes proposals for 400 for sale homes and the development of a "village green" for White Center, including a new community school, a Head Start and child care facility, a branch library and an expanded Boys and Girls Club.
