Senator Maria Cantwell Cosponsors the "Community Telecommunications Planning Act"
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today cosponsored Senator Murray's "Community Telecommunications Planning Act." Cantwell called the legislation an excellent step in providing federal assistance to develop telecommunications infrastructure in rural and underserved communities.
"This legislation will provide an investment in planning for the digital infrastructure, such as broadband technology, that will attract high-technology jobs and investment in every corner of Washington state," Cantwell said. "Such investments provide support for growers and farmers in the international economy."
The "Community Telecommunications Planning Act" establishes grant programs to develop telecommunications infrastructure plans in rural and underserved communities. The grant programs will encourages broad community involvement and enhance the focus on the telecommunications needs of local business, education, health care and government.
"This is important legislation for Washington state. I value Senator Murray's leadership in this issue, and I look forward to working with her on it," Cantwell concluded.
