Senator Maria Cantwell's statement on Bush Administration's Roadless Proposal
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Instead of protecting National Forest roadless areas, the Administration's proposal would open up tens of millions of acres of pristine forests and grasslands to road building, logging and other forms of development. Yesterday's announcement demonstrates the need to enact legislation to make the current roadless rule the law of the land. We should be conserving our national forests, not plundering them.
