Cantwell Statement on Comey Testimony in Senate Intelligence Committee Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement after former FBI Director James Comey testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee:

“We don’t want the Russian government influencing our elections or our democracy and we don’t want the current FBI investigation into Russian interference to be obstructed. It looks from today’s testimony that President Trump attempted to influence Mr. Comey to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn or to move off of it, and to try to claim some sort of loyalty to the President, and purportedly fired Comey because of how he handled the Russian investigation. We have to make sure that the White House is not trying to obstruct the investigation. No one is above the law, not even the president.”
