Senate Passes Bills to Preserve Vancouver Barracks
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA)'s bill to increase the authorization for the Vancouver National Historic Reserve preservation from $5 million to $15 million was approved today by the full Senate. The Senate also passed the Department of Defense spending bill, which included $6.1 million for the Reserve.
"This is a great day for the Vancouver National Historic Reserve, the Senate agreed to fund $6.1 million for the Reserve and increased the authorization for future funding to $15 million," Cantwell said.
"Vancouver National Historic Reserve is an important historic landmark not only for southwest Washington, but for the entire western United States. This funding and the increase in future funding takes us closer to meeting our obligation to future generations to preserve the barracks."
Representative Brian Baird (D-WA) introduced companion legislation in the House. Cantwell and Baird's legislation authorizes $15 million -- increasing the authorization by $10 million -- for preservation of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve preservation.
